Working with AirMiners in-person made me reconsider virtual work

August 01, 2023

I'm noticing that I've been meeting up with people in-person to get work done. Negotiations, pitches, visiting pilot plants.

Last month I visited a startup headquarters to talk about the AirMiners Kiloton Fund. I had meetings in Zurich, Basel and New York to get the fund raised in time for our public announcement during TED Countdown.

At the beginning of the year, I didn't consider anything beyond virtual meetings. I've been constrained in my thinking to focus solely on virtual work and overlooked the importance of the value of face to face interactions.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, the biggest global hub for carbon removal in the world. That concentration makes it easier for AirMiners here to connect with each other in person. Wherever you are, I recommend surrounding yourself with other people working on carbon if you can. Find other people nearby where you are for brainstorming, prototyping, running tests.

What happened last time you worked with an AirMiner in person? What was possible there that you wouldn't have got if the meeting was on Zoom?

Jump off Zoom this week to work in-person with an AirMiner, and let me know how it goes.

P.S. I made a Reversing Climate Change podcast in person with Ross at TED Countdown. Listen here.
