What happened in Iceland?

October 23, 2026

Hi,

Here’s my takeaways from the Global Risk and Stabilization Summit in Iceland.

I’ve already written you that I’ve been looking into how to contribute to sunlight reflection and avoiding warming the planet.

The best high-level picture about the summit and "stabilization" is this blog post by Joshua Elliot from Renaissance Philanthropy ARC. It’s an excellent summary of the summit and the big picture of what this emerging field of stabilization is all about. And he links to others that have written about their takeaways from the conference.

Here's what I've ben contributing so far. Last month I started a fellowship at Renaissance Philanthropy on sunlight reflection. The specific area I’m working on is about making clouds bigger so that they can help reflect sunlight, the technical term is marine cloud brightening.

At the Summit I hosted a session called "Marine Cloud Brightening: The Next 365 Days". It was great to meet so many climate scientists and engineers working on marine cloud brightening.

As part of the fellowship I’m also building a techno-economic analysis of the costs and benefits. I’ve posted a draft to GitHub here and have been integrating feedback from the world’s scientists who are working on this.

If there’s anybody you think I should be talking to, would love to hear about it or any questions you have, would love to hear those too.

Tito
