U.N. Says World Must Now Remove Carbon at Scale

September 18, 2026

If you're headed to New York for Climate Week, I wanted to make sure you're aware that one of the biggest developments ever in carbon dioxide removal just dropped this month.

When folks ask you how it's going for carbon dioxide removal, all you need to say is "the latest United Nations report called Limiting Overshoot says that large-scale carbon dioxide removal is necessary. And we’re doing something about it."

"Overshoot, peak and decline pathways depend on large-scale carbon dioxide removal." That's an excerpt from the UN's Limiting Overshoot Report. For bonus points while you travel, read the NYTimes coverage here: "Climate Goals Missed, U.N. Says World Must Now Remove Carbon at Scale" and read the Limiting Overshoot report.

To me this means big funding is about to open up for carbon dioxide removal. And we can kick it off together at New York Climate Week 2026.

See you in New York!
