Climate scientists are saying El Niño this year is going to be bigger than any El Niño ever in human history in terms of its cost and its impact.

That means tens of millions of people going hungry, going without water. We're going to have the hottest year on record. There'll be a surge in wildfires, and people will lose their livelihoods, they'll lose their homes, and they'll lose their lives. All in the next few months.

At the same time, the climate world, the people that are really knowledgeable about all this stuff, the people that are passionate about making long-term change, they're going to be in New York for Climate Week. And if New York Climate Week is kind of the same as it was last year, the world will go on talking about climate change as something that's really important and will mostly stay on the path of small, iterative, unsatisfying progress.

Imagine instead we unleash a whole generation of people to work on El Niño for the next three months, averting the worst impacts, saving lives, averting hunger, averting drought.

That's a future world where we move forward from El Niño stronger than ever. A world where we know we can address El Niño and other climate catastrophes, and a world where we know how to take action so that we don't have to avert and we can build a stable climate. A world where, yes, we can do something about El Niño becomes, yes, we can do something about the whole darn climate.

That's a world where we unleash innovation, policy structures to stabilize the climate and reverse climate change.

The first step on this is we've got an AirMiners event coming up on Wednesday with Stripe's climate scientist Zeke Housefather to learn about the science of El Niño and the impacts. The second step is taking over New York Climate Week.

We're putting together a schedule of El Niño programming for people in New York and worldwide to learn about the science and to take action, taking off new inventions, fundraisers, community projects, new businesses. Then we'll go and stabilize El Niño, and then we'll go and stabilize the planet.

Here's some ways you can help make El Niño Climate Week a success:

• Marketing help, getting the word out
• Organizing and leading events.
• Ideating and building solutions, power systems, communication systems, water purification, emergency response
• Starting new businesses and organizations implementing solutions

• Help identify what programming in New York Climate Week is already focused on El Niño, so we can make sure to highlight those things.
• Reach out to everybody else who's organizing other events at New York Climate Week to have them add El Niño content into their events. So, for example, if you're already hosting a dinner about climate, how can you make it a dinner about averting the worst impacts of El Niño? If you're already hosting a run club, what if you can make it the El Niño run club? If you're hosting a t-shirt-making session, what if you make that an El Niño t-shirt-making session?
• Create solutioning sessions and action sessions at New York Climate Week. What are all the innovations that we need? What are the businesses that we can create in the next three months? What are the opportunities and organizations?
