AirMiners is kicking off the second batch of its Buyers Club, and as part of that we went back and reviewed the pilot. Here's my takeaways on why Buyers Clubs are so important, and you can read the full report linked below. (This update on YouTube and LinkedIn)
First off, it really comes down to peer-to-peer learning.
Think about doing something new, you usually have a lot of questions. Folks getting into buying carbon dioxide removal have the same approach. They might have questions about what carbon dioxide removal is, questions about a particular methodology, or one particular implementation of it. All of that is multiplied by every single different company and every single different methodology.
What's valuable about having Buyers Clubs is that your peers get to help answer those questions or even just say "well I have the same question". What Buyers Clubs bring are candid conversations about what's important to you. In addition to all those questions about carbon dioxide removal, you have an entirely separate set of questions about what's important in your organization. What does the legal department even do?
That's what's so important about these regular convenings just for folks in the buyers community. They're not pitch events. It's for education. It's for sharing. The candidness goes way up when you're just surrounded by peers.
We ran 11 sessions, every two weeks. One week something's happening within your organization, or you have a question. Two weeks later you come with something totally different. Totally fine. That's the power of peer learning. It keeps momentum going, and momentum can be lost so easily, especially when you're starting something new like purchasing carbon dioxide removal credits. (if you're a graduate of AirMiners Launchpad or Boot Up, you know what peer learning can unlock).
Buyers and startups are on the same team. They have a different set of questions, but they all want carbon dioxide removal to succeed. When you talk to somebody thinking about purchasing, know that they want that to happen. They're open to getting creative about how to do it. That's why these buyers communities really matter.
Here's three resources for growing the community of carbon dioxide removal credit buyers:
