Hi,
Imagine this: it's 10 years in the future and we've stabilized Arctic melting, sea level rise, and ice sheets. We've grown our understanding of Earth's biosphere, ecosystems, atmosphere and reflectivity to where we're starting to manage those things intentionally.
That's a world where we have sense-making around what catastrophic climate risk is, our whole world has built a sustainable social legitimacy around stabilizing the climate. The funding is there, and taking care of our planet is the best investment money can buy. Scientists and builders and engineers have started careers in the field and they're getting the support that they need.
There's everything from financial services to media companies, R&D groups on everything from the technology to the governance. There is this whole societal movement, including the ethics, including the transparency, the engineering, the science of Earth system stabilization.
Imagine that's the world 10 years from now and you're looking back over the years. You would likely look back to today and think, "Wow, back in 2026, we were just getting started".
Today I'm on a plane to Iceland to be part of that start.
Everything that I just told you is on the agenda for the Global Risk and Stabilization Summit. Every topic there is part of that future world when we arrive at a stabilized planet and a thriving human civilization.
Take a look at the agenda - if there's places where you want to contribute to this, pieces of this that you're already working on, I'd love to hear about it. And if you have questions, send them my way and maybe I can get them answered.
Another request: If you come across anybody that's writing about a world where all these things have come together for humanity, whether it's kind of speculatively or if it's science fiction or fantasy or something like that, I want to hear about those worlds.
After that, I'll be in London for Carbon Unbound the next week. And on my way home I'm going to an art festival in Texas to find artists to make memes about the upcoming El Niño as part of our El Memeño Meme Competition (~$5,000 prize for the winning artist too). If you know artists who would be great to join the competition, send them this link!
