I want to share with you how far we've come on El Nino Ready in the last week!

Two weeks ago I came up with this idea to save lives during El Niño and here we are:

• We hosted Zeke Hausfather and 38 of us jammed on project ideas to avert the worst impacts of El Niño. Here's the recording.
• When we started, there were zero official events about El Niño, now there are two, plus two unofficial events! Find the full list of all El Niño events at New York Climate week here at elninoready.earth/events.
• Being prepared for El Niño is one of our best tools to save lives. Our community is working on projects including having boys' choirs interrupt events at New York Climate Week to sing about El Niño actions, sending out information to every single organizer of an event at New York Climate Week and letting them know how you can talk about getting El Niño Ready.

If you want to help, here’s a few things left to volunteer for:

• Find any New York Climate Week events about El Niño that we missed. Add them to the site here (and you get credit!)
• I was talking with a friend of mine who asked "can I actually do anything about El Niño?" We're making an action list of things you can do in your household, in your city, in your country. In the works, let me know if you want to help with that, it's big research project so anyone can type in their city and see what the expected impacts are and actions they can take.
• We need help with marketing, getting the word out, contacting NYCW event organizers, creating our own El Niño events. Angus Shaw and Jack Sullivan are working on building a contact list. Let's make a packet for every NYCW event to hand out. It’s an opportunity for event organizers to take their whole event to the next level, connecting long term decades of climate action to something that's happening right now.
• There's a big gap on communications access during and after El Niño events. Power and cell phones get knocked out. 911 goes out, emergency services don’t know where to go. What can we do about that? Jack Sullivan is working on an emergency-ready Starlink internet system to give people internet connectivity when the power and cell phones are knocked out. So cool! Come work on that with us.
