Hi,
I'm running an art competition for a piece of art about El Niño and you're invited! (Video on Youtube and LinkedIn)
The El Memeño Meme Competition is live here on 6529.io. If everything works out, there's a $5,000+ prize, a bunch of honor and recognition for the winner. Entires can be any form of art, drawings, paintings, illustrations, songs. If you're Kim Stanley Robinson and you want to write a sci-fi story about this Godzilla El Niño, that is totally fair game.
This El Niño is the hottest ever on record already with a month of warming to go. It's riding on the back of the warmest planet in human history. And together we can tell a story that makes a difference and saves lives.
Maybe somebody will see one of the submissions and laugh.
Maybe they will feel sad.
Maybe they will say "you know I want to make sure that my house is prepared before the storms come. There's this battery with a solar panel that I've always wanted to order so I can make calls when the power goes out" And they go and get prepped.
Maybe they say "I've been reading about this El Nino for years. My family lives in this area that every time there's a super El Niño, they just get wiped out. I'm going to call up my family and have a conversation with them about how they can get prepared. I'm going to go on El Niño Ready and get the report that shows here's all the predicted impacts in their neighborhood."
Maybe somebody scrolls past this piece of art on LinkedIn and says "I've been reading out this climate stuff forever and now I'm going to actually go to work on it."
That's all possible coming out of this El Memeño Meme Competition.
Stories and memes rule the world around us. Let's put them to use to save lives and avert climate catastrophe this El Niño.
Imagine this piece causes the world to start thinking differently about what we're really doing as the world is warming. What we're really doing as we stand by for every passing storm. What we're really doing to our atmosphere.
1. If you're an artist or you're an illustrator a story writer or musician
2. Known someone who makes art?
3. "Oh, I'm not an artist"
4. "I'm not really into this but I want to get ready for El Niño"
We can't change becoming El Niño, but we can, sure as heck can take action to prevent damage and put humanity on a new course.
This weekend I'm in Marfa, Texas at the Artblocks Marfa Weekend art festival meeting artists to invite them to join the El Memeño competition. Looking forward to what we create together!
