DOE’s $22M Air Mining Bet

September 11, 2020

The Department of Energy just awarded $22 million of grants across 18 direct air capture companies. This is a big deal, it's the largest grant that I've heard of going directly to direct air capture tech. Even better, most of the money is going towards basic R&D, about $1 million per project, most of which I had never heard of before the announcement. There's also other grants that are going towards supporting scaling up more mature technologies like Global Thermostat's system.

This week I made a video about this $22 million experiment and what it means, watch it on YouTube here. I also joined the Carbon Removal Newsroom to walk through every single one of the fundees with Nori's Ross Kenyon. That dropped this morning, listen to the Carbon Removal Newsroom here

What's your take on this DOE experiment?
